The annual College Football Fan Challenge Oyster Roast is popular the same way the Laurens-Clinton football game is.

Everybody is rooting for somebody.

The Oyster Roast went off grandly in its 11th consecutive year on Thursday night.

Whether Clemson, South Carolina or Presbyterian, everyone has something to support, and all of them benefit the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the event.

Partisans of the Tigers, Gamecocks and Blue Hose mingle cordially, as do Republicans and Democrats. Luminaries vary, from mascots Cocky (USC) and Scotty (PC) to legends of the gridiron to Third District Congressman Jeff Duncan.

The steamed oysters are delicious. So are the Low Country Boil, chicken gumbo and ice cream.

Souvenirs, autographed photos, collectibles, gear, equipment and small appliances go up for auction or raffle.

The crowd hangs around until everyone has his or her fill of food, drink and fellowship.
