The man who allegedly masterminded a kidnapping and murder from behind bars has been transferred to Laurens County’s Johnson Detention Center.

James Robert Peterson, 31, has been in prison since 2005. On Tuesday, he was transferred from the state Department of Corrections to face charges for murder and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

According to warrants, Peterson orchestrated, from Columbia’s Kirkland Correctional Facility, the events that led to the kidnapping and murder of Michelle M. Dodge of York.

The crimes occurred in Gaffney, but the victim’s body was found in Laurens County.

Eight have been charged with various aspects of the crimes. Dodge’s remains were found near Ekom Beach and McDaniel roads, in a wooded area southwest of Laurens, on July 20.
