Former CHS Red Devils named one of Top 50 Gamecocks of all time

It’s almost Clemson-Carolina time, and an ex-Tiger and an ex-Gamecock are the featured speakers at Thursday’s noon meeting of the Laurens County Touchdown Club at The Ridge.

Tim Childers, from Gaffney, who played strong safety on Clemson’s 1981 national championship team, and linebacker J.D. Fuller, from Cross Hill and Clinton High, will provide a lead-up to the Nov. 30 game in Columbia. Fuller is South Carolina’s all-time leading tackler with 405.

Admission for non-members is $15 at the door and $10 for parents of current football players at Laurens, Clinton, Laurens Academy and Presbyterian College.

GameDay sponsors of meeting are Laurens Electric Co-Op and Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative, with catering provided by Whiteford’s Giant Burger of Laurens.

The year’s final affair for the Touchdown Club is on Wednesday, December 4, when ex-National Football League head coach and player Sam Wyche, a Furman graduate, will be the main speaker.
