ANDERSON – Hilton Head needed nine innings to send Clinton’s Triple-A Minors team into the elimination bracket of the Dixie Youth state tournament on Saturday.

A two-out error with a runner in scoring position enabled Hilton Head to win, 6-5.

Clinton led 4-0 after the first inning, thanks to a bases-clearing triple by Zack Lawson and a Hilton Head error that allowed Lawson to score. All the runs scored with two out.

Talan Campbell started on the mound and held Hilton Head scoreless through three innings, but gave up three runs, only one earned, in the fourth.

Owen Glenn singled in a run in the fifth.

An error played a crucial role again in the sixth when a dropped fly ball allowed Hilton Head to tie the score.

After an off day, Clinton faces Gaffney at 3 p.m. on Sunday in an elimination game.

For the first time, the Clinton team failed to score in double figures after sweeping through the district tournament.
