Patterson named interim baseball coach at LDHS

GREENWOOD – Laurens had way too much Eric Jones for Emerald to shine.

Jones pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits, as the Raiders beat the Vikings 9-2 on Thursday night.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, at which points Laurens scored four runs on three hits. Jalen Bragg, Jaylon Nance, Zac Rice and Luke Willis scored the runs. Rice and Willis had runs batted in.

Emerald scored twice in the bottom half but not again. Already leading 6-2, the Raiders scored three more in a sloppy seventh full of errors by the Viking fielders and walks serve up by the pitchers.

Bragg and Kobe Williams each had two hits.

The Raiders’ scheduled Friday game at Wade Hampton has been postponed to March 27.

It was Old Home Night at Clinton, where the Red Devils overpowered Broome 9-1 at the team’s old field, “The Sponge,” at Clinton Middle School because the current home diamond was still inundated by precipitation.

The Red Devils erupted for six runs in the sixth and after opening with two in the first.

Griffin Fuller singled twice, doubled and tripled for Clinton in four at-bats. Kimon Quarles, Blake Smith and Chance Ewell each collected two hits.

Ewell turned in six strong innings on the hill, striking out seven and walking two.

Greenwood blanked the Raider tennis team 7-0.
