Victim identified in fatal wreck on Stoddard Mill Road

A two-vehicle crash on I-26 Sunday resulted in a fatality.

The victim, who was towing a camper in a 2003 Ford F-250, was identified as Douglas Michael Denton, 50, of Savannah, Ga. He was driving west-bound near mile marker 60, about three miles east of Joanna, when his truck collided with a 2019 Buick SUV driven by a 52-year-old Florence woman at about 1:38 p.m. Both were moving from the left to right lane when the collision occurred. The truck and camper overturned after running off the right side of the interstate, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured. The decedent, who was seatbelted, died of multiple blunt-force trauma, according to Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek. The incident remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
