The rushing outbreak of Carson-Newman’s Troy Dendy, formerly a Laurens Raider, headlines another survey of the Laurens County athletes finding success in the college ranks.

Dendy, an Eagle freshman, was named as one of the South Atlantic Conference’s AstroTurf Football Players of the Week for games played during week five of the 2019 season. Dendy was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Limestone defensive back Mannie Ogletree was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Lenoir-Rhyne return man Kyle Dugger picked up Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Dendy averaged 21.3 yards per carry while scoring two touchdowns in the Eagles’ 69-18 win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday. He finished the game with 149 yards rushing, the most rushing yards by a Carson-Newman player against UNCP in the history of the program. Three of his rushes were for at least 20-yards and four went for at least 10-yards.

For the season, Dendy, who is listed as 5-8, 150 pounds, has rushed 17 times for 222 yards, 13.1 yards per carry, and four touchdowns, for Carson-Newman (3-1), located in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Corey Nichols, who is from Clinton but played in high school at Spartanburg Christian, is a freshman on Lander’s volleyball team, which has compiled a 10-3 record so far in the season.

The 5-3 Nichols has 81 digs, six service aces and four assists.

Clinton High’s Isaac MacMillan is now a sophomore at Coker College in Hartsville.

As a freshman, MacMillan played at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, going 7-11, and 9-9 in doubles, mostly teamed with Justus Lehmann.

Another LDHS alum is in the SAC, but it’s tennis at Mars Hill College in North Carolina.

Kat Horner, a sophomore, has played at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Justin Nobles of Cross Hill and Clinton High, is on both the cross country and wrestling teams at Presbyterian College.

In the Queen City Invite at Charlotte, N.C.’s McAlpine Street Park on Sept. 27, Nobles ran a season-best 33:42.
