North Myrtle Beach dropped Clinton into the losers’ bracket of the Dixie Youth O-Zone (11-12 age group) state tournament Saturday, winning 11-0 at Timken Sports Complex in Union.
The Chiefs, from District 11, scored three runs in the first inning, four in the second and four in the fourth.
Clinton, which won District 3, opened the game with two hits, but Jy Leake was thrown out at third trying to advance on Bryce Young’s single, and Zane McLendon grounded into an inning-ending double play. Those wound up being Clinton’s only hits of the afternoon. The All-Stars did, however, manage to put a runner on board in each of the four innings.
Starter Carson Glenn took the loss, pitching 1-2/3 innings before yielding to Leake, who toiled the remaining 2-1/3 for Clinton.
Clinton will play again at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The tournament is divided into two eight-team brackets.
