NEWBERRY – The Region 3-3A road has not been kind to the Clinton Red Devils.

Newberry (4-4, 2-1 region) dominated Clinton 49-12. Two weeks earlier, at Union County, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Red Devils 62-7. In between, Clinton won its only region home game to date by a 21-7 score over Mid-Carolina.

The Bulldog quarterback, Zay Chalmers, made the best of his seven pass attempts and five completions. Two of them went for touchdowns, and Chalmers averaged 37 yards a completion.

Newberry’s edge in total-offense yards was 451-96, and the Bulldogs outrushed the Red Devils 266-56.

Chalmers’ Clinton counterpart, Navill Watson, connected on five of his 13 tries, throwing touchdown passes of two yards to P.J. Bluford and five to Elijah Campbell.

One of Chalmers’ scoring passes was 95 yards to Ny Downing with 6:38 remaining in the first half. That gave the Bulldogs a 28-6 lead, and a 44-yard Chalmers run made it 35-6 at halftime.

Clinton (2-6, 1-2) has home region games remaining against Emerald and Woodruff.
