A traffic accident involving a vehicle and three pedestrians took the life of a 17-month-old child on Sunday at approximately 5:48 p.m. on Bellview Church Road near Laurens.
Ay’Vah Tierani Samuel died of blunt-force trauma to the head, according to an autopsy conducted by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.
The 33-year-old driver of a 1996 Dodge pickup, Adrian Daniel Brown of Laurens, 33, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, with death; two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, with injury; and driving under suspension. He was uninjured.
According to Trooper Joe Hovis of the S.C. Highway Patrol, the truck was driving westbound on Bellview Church Road when it hit the three pedestrians.
All three were transported to Laurens County Memorial Hospital: a 20-year-old Woodruff man, a 15-year-old juvenile and the victim, who died at the hospital.
A continuing investigation is being conducted by the Highway Patrol, the coroner’s office and the State Law Enforcement Division Child Fatality Unit.
