Clinton’s Dixie Youth 3A All-Stars will open play in the District 3 Tournament in Edgefield at 6 p.m. Friday against Saluda.

If the team – coached by Jeremy Campbell, Jayson Glenn and Josh Rowland – wins, it will play the Abbeville vs. Mid-Carolina winner on Saturday at 7 p.m. A loss would pit them against that game’s loser on Saturday at 5.

Clinton will start Zack Lawson on the mound, Rhett Gilliam at catcher, Owen Glenn at first base, Ryder Rowland at second, Talan Campbell at short, Dalton Williams at third, and Camden Finley, Aiden Price and Brian Steele in the outfield.

The reserves are Bubba Underwood, Asa Baker and Crue Keller.

The seven-team tournament runs through Tuesday.

Laurens Recreation’s L3 Minors team has punched a ticket to the state Little League tournament but will have to defeat Wren twice to win the district championship in Easley.

Four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning lifted Laurens to an 8-4 victory on Thursday over Greenwood-Abbeville.

Graydon Watkins came on in relief after Greenwood-Abbeville scored four runs in the first inning and picked up his second win of the tournament.

Matthew Hardick keyed the fifth-inning rally with a two-run double. The first five batters had two hits apiece.

We gave up four runs right off the bat and kept batting back,” said head coach Wayne French.

Cody Haines will start for L3 against Wren on Friday. A victory would extend the tournament to Saturday.
