Saturday night’s home game is an interesting preview of the future for Presbyterian College football and head coach Tommy Spangler.

PC, which is in the process of eliminating football scholarships, will join the Pioneer Football League, a group of Football Championship Subdivision schools that are already compete without the benefit of such grants-in-aid, in 2021. Jacksonville (Fla.) University, already a member of the PFL, will visit Bailey Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Spangler is this week’s guest speaker at the Laurens County Touchdown Club on Thursday, at noon, at The Ridge. Non-members may attend Touchdown Club meetings for $15, which includes a meal provided this week by Dempsey’s Pizza of Clinton. The GameDay Sponsors are Christopher Benson (Raymond James) and First Baptist Church of Laurens.

Athletes’ parents will be admitted for $10 each.

Presbyterian (0-1) was supposed to have already played a PFL member, but the scheduled opener at Stetson was canceled due to weather concerns. Instead, the Blue Hose picked up a home game against Mercer, falling 45-7.

Top players from the county’s high school teams – Laurens, Clinton and Laurens Academy – will also be honored.

The Ridge is located at 319 Exchange Rd., Laurens.
