According to Sheriff Ricky Chastain the incident occurred at the Allen Bridge Road residence. “We received a call around 4:00am Sunday morning,” said Chastain. “Officers responded and discovered the bodies of Amanda Chapman and Ashton Arnold.” “Following the shooting which occurred inside the home, Gentry Chapman fired several other shots in the yard beneath a tree. He calmly called 911 stating that he shot a woman and 17-year-old. Gentry then took two minor step-children, ages 8 and 12, with him to the Fountain Inn Police Department where he turned himself in. The children were at the residence when the shooting occurred,” said Lt. Jim Burns, investigator, LCSO. Nick Nichols, Laurens County Coroner and deputy coroners, Vickie Cheek and Bill Wier were on the scene. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was contacted to process the scene and assist with the investigation. The Laurens County Department of Social Services (DSS)were contacted in regards to the minor children and will make a decision regarding placement. “The investigation is ongoing,” said Chastain, “Our investigators were at the crime scene as well as the Fountain Inn Police Department interviewing Chapman and they continue to thoroughly investigate this case. Charges are pending at this time and will be released when the investigation is finished. It was a tragic situation that left two dead and two children without a mother.”
