What awakened Jim Todd’s family on Saturday morning was more disquieting than any rooster.
A thief found an inopportune site to stash the car he had apparently stolen. Laurens policemen Will Van Pelt and Billy Sellers were in pursuit.
At 6:45 a.m., the hot car got cooler because it crashed through a concrete wall into the Todds’ swimming pool.
Jim had an immediate and comprehensive grasp of the ramifications. It’s his pool, and he’s a former prosecutor in the Eighth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
What a mess.
“You can’t make this up,” Todd said. “I guess the pool is closed for the summer.”
