Bayley Burns, a 14-year-old Laurens native and rising freshman at LDHS, will compete in the upcoming Miss S.C. Teen pageant in Columbia. Bayley secured her spot in the state pageant after entering her first pageant ever in February of this year and winning the title of Miss Upstate Teen.

Since winning the local title, Bayley has been active in promoting her platform of “No Kid Hungry” in an effort to bring awareness and solutions to the problem of childhood hunger in our community and state. She has also raised funds to support the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals and done volunteer work at the Greenville Hospital.

Bayley has been very active in service projects to better the community and says she has learned many valuable lessons in service to others and has gained much more from it than the time she has given.

Bayley’s Palmetto Princess is Mary Frances Kennedy, daughter of Price and Mary Beth Kennedy of Laurens. Mary Frances has participated in service and fund-raising activities leading up to the pageant as well. She will accompany Bayley to the pageant and will walk with her during the evening gown competition. Mary Frances will also perform a show-dance with the other princesses in the program, each night of the preliminaries as well as on finals night.

There are 50 teens from all over the state competing in the upcoming pageant. Preliminaries will be held on Tuesday through Thursday, June 25-27 with the teen finals on Friday, June 28.

The winner will be chosen based on scholarship, personal interview, fitness, talent, evening gown and onstage question. For the talent portion of the competition, Bayley will be clogging to “Disco Inferno.”

Bayley’s competition schedule is Tuesday: Fitness; Wednesday: Talent and Thursday: Evening Gown & Onstage Question. Bayley will have her personal interview with the judges on Tuesday morning.

The fundraising effort to support the Children’s Miracle Network is still ongoing and if you would like to donate funds please follow this link: maoteen4kids.org/contestant/Bayley or go the Miss Upstate Teen Instagram page.

Bayley would like to thank the community for the support she has received since being crowned Miss Upstate Teen.
