The weather outside was frightful.

That sounds great for Halloween but isn’t.

Laurens’ annual trick-or-treatin’ extravaganza, Boo in the Park, moved inside to become, informally, Boo at the Ridge on Thursday night. The response was predictably fantastic.

Thunder rolled. Lightning flashed. From 5:30 to 6:30, the temperature dropped 15 degrees. Weather chased the kiddies, their mamas and their daddies inside. So many showed up that parking was directed to City Park, where everyone could ride over and back on the trolley. Kids love the trolley.

Kids also love candy, buckets of it. Grown-ups probably got their share, too, inside houses on mostly vacant city streets.

When the doors opened, an army of ghosts, goblins, superheroes, storm troopers (Star Wars style), princesses, warriors, trolls, witches and weirdos stood outside. A couple of genuine Laurens Raiders handed out freebies.

Parks & Recreation was exquisitely prepared for the change of venue.
