Jacqueline Coggins, a nurse at E.B. Morse Elementary School, has been named the 2019 Laurens County School District 55 (LCSD 55) Support Staff of the Year.

The surprise announcement was made at the annual District Recognition Banquet at The Ridge on Thursday, May 30.

According to E.B. Morse Principal Jason Bailey, "Coggins helps to set the tone for the entire school community. She leads by example, always showing patience, perseverance, and dedication to a job done right. Faculty, staff and parents know that they can always count on Coggins to pay close attention to details and to give her very best for E.B. Morse. She is always friendly, approachable and eager to share her warm smile with everyone to brighten their day."

Coggins is a Registered Nurse in South Carolina who obtained her Degree in Nursing at Lander College in 1975 and her Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from Gardner- Webb University in 2001.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and Department of Social Services (DSS) recognized Coggins in 2014 for collaboratively working with DSS to initiate a local well child check-up/follow-up program (EPSDT) and creating innovative ways to improve patient participation.

Coggins said, "I want to promote that we as a collective group of professionals with parents will continue to work to help students reach their highest educational potential in Laurens District 55."

Every year, each school and department in the District selects their own "Support Staff Employee of the Year," and these winners are eligible for the District Support Staff of the Year Award, which is announced at the annual District Recognition Banquet. The District Recognition Banquet also honors the LCSD 55 Teachers of the Year, employees with significant years of service and retirees.

"It is the support staff who drive our buses, prepare our meals, clean our schools and do several other jobs that help support the educational efforts of the District," said Superintendent Dr. Stephen G. Peters. "The dedication and hard work of our support staff employees does not go unnoticed. We appreciate all they do to support students and staff and their contributions every day are part of what makes LCSD 55 special."
