A two-year-old child was found dead, beaten and sexually molested in a Clinton home on Saturday.
The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 176 Country Lane in Clinton early Saturday morning. Upon arrival, deputies located a two-year-old child deceased in the residence. The child appeared to have been brutally beaten and had apparent injuries all over his body.
During the course of the investigation, it was also learned that the child had been brutally sexually molested before his death.
Jessica Blake Smith, the mother of the child, and William Ryan Looper, the mother’s boyfriend, have been arrested in relation to the death of this child.
Smith has been charged with homicide by child abuse and two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.
Looper has been charged with murder, criminal sexual conduct with a minor (first degree) and two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.
According to Capt. Robert Wilkie, commander of criminal investigations with the Laurens County Sheriff's Department, more charges are possible, depending on the direction of the investigation.
According to Sheriff Don Reynolds, two other children were in the home at the time of the incident.
“These animals, who are possessed with pure evil, have no place in our society,” said Reynolds. “There is no rehabilitation for people this evil. I’m sure God has a place for these broken individuals, as he does for these precious children.”
According to the LCSO, this is an ongoing investigation.
“Unfortunately, I have had to work many homicide cases over the years, some of which involved children, however this by far the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” said Wilkie. “This incident brought tears to the eyes of our investigators and what these individuals did to this child is unimaginable.”
