A fatal automobile accident on Indian Mound Road, southeast of Ekom, knocked out power for 1,300 Laurens Electric Cooperative customers on Tuesday evening.
Timothy Sondles, 17, of Ware Shoals, was airlifted to Prisma Health, where he died of blunt-force injuries to the head and chest at 7:03 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek.
According to Master Trooper David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol, Sondles was driving a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer that ran off the right side of Indian Mound Road, near Elmore Road, at 5:23 p.m. The vehicle was headed east. After leaving the roadway to the right, the driver apparently overcorrected, and the SUV ran off the left side of the road, knocked down an electric pole and flipped several times. Sondles, who was not seatbelted, was ejected from the vehicle.
Power was restored by 7:45 p.m.
