Charges against James Hayes dropped by solicitor

Charges brought against James Hayes from an incident nearly a year ago have been dropped by the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Hayes, a former candidate for Laurens County coroner and the man behind the leaked text messages regarding former Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disseminating harmful material to minors.

According to information from the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the victim does not want to prosecute.

Hayes was accused of showing a nude image to a 16-year-old girl in a parking lot on August 15. The incident allegedly happened in front of multiple witnesses that were in a parking lot watching the fire at Dempsey’s Pizza.

Hayes turned himself in to the Clinton Dept. of Public Safety and was booked at the Johnson Detention Center.
