A home in Cross Hill was severely damaged by fire on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to a residence on South Cook Rd. in Cross Hill just after 3:30pm. Fire departments from Laurens County, Mountville, Cross Hill, Waterloo and Clinton responded to the call.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke was coming out of both ends of the residence and the front door, according to Laurens County Fire Coordinator Greg Lindley.

Lindley said that the fire started in the kitchen.

American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers are assisting a family with four adults by providing financial assistance for food, clothing, other essentials, and comfort kits containing personal hygiene items.
