Nichols wins fifth term as Laurens County coroner

 

Laurens County Coroner F.G. “Nick” Nichols passed away on Monday afternoon. 

Nichols was a 37-year veteran in the coroner’s office after serving as chief deputy coroner under the leadership of the late Dr. Zack Seymour. 

Nichols' leadership was recognized by the S.C. Coroner’s Association in 2007 inaugural “Coroner of The Year” award. Also, in 2011, he received the “Sue Townsend Award” which is given to the Coroner/Deputy Coroner who best exemplifies the professionalism and compassionate service demonstrated by the late Ms. Townsend during her years as Aiken County Coroner.

In addition to his long membership in the S.C. Coroner’s Association, Nichols served on the board of the S.C. Association of Countywide Elected Executives, the S.C. Division of International Identification, Laurens County Shrine Club and Hejaz Temple, and Clinton First Baptist.

Nichols was a self-employed businessman, having been owner of Nichols Texaco, Nichols Lift Trucks and Nichols Properties Incorporated for over 30 years. He retired from these businesses in 2001.

Wife Myra served as Mayor of Clinton from 1994-2003.
