The Gray Court resident wanted for the mistreatment of a dog has been apprehended.

Michael Christopher Yeargin of Gray Court now awaits a bond hearing on a charge of ill treatment of an animal.

On Sept. 8, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence on Carriage Farms Ct. in Gray Court in reference to a dog that was being mistreated. Deputies located a dog in a wooded area that appeared to be near death. The animal was found to be without water and only a small amount of food on the ground, which was covered in ants. The dog appeared to be extremely malnourished and dehydrated, to the point that it was unable to bark or get up.

Deputies called for animal control to come take possession of the dog so that it could be treated for its injuries. Animal control arrived and took the dog to an animal hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, Captain Martin identified the owner of the dog as Yeargin.
