As Representative Mike Pitts retires, I, Scott Horne, have filed to run in the Republican Primary for the South Carolina House of Representatives in House District 14.
As I filed, I made a promise to myself and I make that promise now to you. I intend to represent District 14, not Scott Horne, in Columbia. I promise you that I will truly listen to you and then take your views, your needs to Columbia.
I am a 52-year-old Christian, veteran, husband and father. I have started three businesses from scratch. Those businesses now employ 43 South Carolinians. I am a former school board member and board chairman and member of the Laurens County Planning Commission.
I believe in God, personal responsibility, the sanctity of human life, limited government, the free market and the right to keep and bear arms, and I want to be your partner. Should I be blessed to win this election, the District 14 seat will not be mine. No, the seat belongs to the people of the district. I will simply be the one who takes their wishes to the Statehouse.
I promise that I will seek your input, actually listen to you and then represent you. I believe that is what a representative is supposed to do and that a mixture of opinions on any issue impacting District 14 will ensure a proper decision.
You can expect me to exhibit good moral character and maturity. I promise that I will not embarrass you. I don’t want to be a politician. I want to be the voice for all of the people who make up South Carolina House District 14.
