Red Cross assists family after fire damages home

American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers are assisting a family whose home, located on Silver Street in Laurens, was damaged by a fire. The Laurens Fire Department responded to the blaze on Sunday, November 3.

The Red Cross is helping two adults and two children by providing financial assistance for food, clothing, lodging and other essentials, and comfort kits containing personal hygiene items.

As we gather around the holiday table to give thanks for our friends and family, let’s take a minute to help prevent tragedy from striking. When deep-frying a turkey, keep children and pets away. Be sure the pot you’re using fits on the burner. Follow recommended fill guidelines, and turn the burner off before placing the turkey into the fryer. Never leave it unattended.
