Laurens man dies from injuries sustained in Fleming Mill Rd. wreck


Two motorists lost their lives early Friday morning in a single-vehicle accident that occurred on the entry/exit ramps of Interstate 385 near Gray Court and Owings.

At approximately 1 a.m., the driver lost control of his vehicle while attempting to enter I-385 from Hwy. 14. According to Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol, the vehicle drove onto the entrance ramp, lost control, crossed the exit ramp, went down an embankment and struck a row of trees.

The Laurens County Coroner's Office identified the victims on Tuesday as Sandra Bennett, 70, of Fountain Inn and Mary Godfrey, 65, of Fountain Inn.

The incident, which occurred on Exit 19 of I-385, remains under investigation.
