Mary Cochran Herbert, age 93, of 1355 Cedar Valley Road, and widow of Charles Carrington Herbert, Sr, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at her home.
Born in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late George Brockenbrough and Mary James Cochran. Mrs. Herbert was a graduate of St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, VA and in 1950 moved to Cedar Valley Farm with her husband and their children. There they raised their children, animals, crops, and beautiful flowers. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, working the land, and entertaining friends at their beloved Cedar Valley. Mary was an active community volunteer. A few of her accomplishments include being the first lady on the Laurens County Hospital Board and being a charter member of the Laurens County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Mary was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany of Laurens and at one time served on the church vestry.
Surviving are three children, Jane Herbert Martin and husband Bob of Wilmington, NC, Charles Carrington Herbert, Jr. and wife Vivian of Williamsburg, VA, and William Fairfax Herbert and wife Lyn of South Dartmouth, MA; five grandchildren, Bo, Robin, Pamela, Fax, and Carter; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband of 70 years she was predeceased by her infant son, Robin Herbert and one grandson, Charles Herbert, III.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, April 8, 2018, at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany led by Priest Paul Abernathy.
The family will be at Cedar Valley Farm, and they will host a reception there immediately following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 225 West Main Street, Laurens, SC 29360.
