Camden posted two touchdowns then on-side kicked to get field position for a third to take control of Friday’s AAA 1st Round Playoff game and easily defeat Clinton, 43-14.

The Red Devils, 4th seed out of Region 3, got a touchdown from Greg Sanders with 1:58 left in the 3rd quarter, and a score by Shy Kinard with 8:40 left in the game for their only points. Clinton missed a PAT and scored a 2-point conversion. A final scoring attempt ended in the Bulldogs’ endzone with a 4th down pass break-up.

The home-standing Bulldogs, 1st seed out of Region 4, scored on a pick-six and 2-point conversion to make the game 30-0 just before halftime. Camden scored  2-point conversions on a split set with a defensive lineman taking a direct snap and battering into the endzone in one of the two sets – the Bulldogs converted traditional PATs in the second half.

Clinton Football Head Coach Corey Fountain said, “I hate that they (seniors) have to go out on this note. Our first drive, we drive it all the way to the three and turn it over. We gotta get that fixed. No excuses, we gotta get it fixed.  It’s a different ball game if we score right there and get momentum.  We knew we had to pull out the stops to score against these guys. We knew they had a prolific offense. We were trying to slow them down, but we have to do a better job of finishing drives and scoring ourselves.”

Camden’s on-side kick recovery after the Bulldogs had scored two touchdowns was especially irritating for Clinton. The ball did not travel 10 yards before  Camden players blocked out the Clinton front line and a Bulldog put a hand on the ball. Two officials shooed Fountain back to the Clinton sideline as he approached them to file a complaint.

Clinton finishes the season 4-7. Camden continues on with a 10-1 record, led by their fine running back Willis Lane with more than 1,600 yards rushing on the season.
