Clinton High School’s cheerleading squad recently finished third in the S.C. High School League’s GameDay Cheer Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina-Aiken.

“This was our only competition because it was a one-day event,” CHS cheer coach Christy Corley said. “We will compete again next year.”

The Red Devils competed in the A, 2A and 3A division. The top seven schools were, in order, Barnwell, Seneca, Clinton, St. Joseph’s Catholic, Academic Magnet and Oceanside Collegiate Academy.

Top finishers in the 5A-5A division were River Bluff, Cane Bay, South Aiken, Riverside, Lakewood and Colleton County.

Judges graded the cheer teams in the following categories: Game Day Situation, Game Day Material, Crowd Effectiveness, Crowd Leading Tools, Motion Technique, Crowd Appeal, Execution Skills, Overall Impression, Visual Appeal, Execution of Band Chant and Execution of Fight Song.

Competing for Clinton were: Alexa Kate Bagwell, Hailey Brannon, Alexiona Carwise, Ta'Mya Godfrey, Calleigh Jacks, Alyssa Jackson, Madison Hoke, Kiyasha Lott, Savanna Moates, Katherine Osborn, Jada Pitts, Lucy Rhodes, Nytiyanna Robinson, Tytaijha Robinson, Mallorie Tumblin, Anna Watson, Jenna Whiteford, Haley Wood and Jordan Marthers.
