Three members of Clinton High School’s Class 3A Upper State Champion tennis team competed in the High School League’s 2A-3A individual singles tournament at Cayce Tennis center on Monday and Tuesday.

Graduating senior Isaac MacMillan and freshman Ike Waldron both earned all-state recognition, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Another freshman, Anders Orr, also competed.

Coach Clovis Simmons was named Region 3-3A Coach of the Year.

McMillan, who will play at Coker College next year, was one of eight Upper State players chosen to play for the North team in the South Carolina Tennis Coaches Association North-South All-Star event this weekend in Myrtle Beach.


MacMillan defeated Tyran Parker (Williston-Elko) 6-2, 6-2; defeated David Mateo (Landrum) 6-0, 6-1; lost to Tim Pitts (Southside Christian) 6-1, 6-1; defeated Liam Beckler (May River) 8-4; defeated Ric Philpot (Christ Church); and defeated Waldron (CHS) 8-2.


Waldron defeated Sam Russell (Christ Church) 6-2, 7-5; defeated Orr (CHS) 6-2, 6-1; lost to Chad Nash (Hanahan) 6-0, 6-4; defeated Mortiz Brichzin (Newberry) 8-4; defeated MacLean Armstrong (St. Joseph) 8-6; lost to MacMillan (CHS) 8-2.


Orr defeated Austin Smith (Williston-Elko) 6-1, 6-0; lost to Waldron (CHS) 6-2, 6-1; defeated Nathaniel Utley (Mullins) 8-3; lost to MacLean Armstrong (St. Joseph) 8-3.
