GREENWOOD – Laurens Academy’s basketball squads charged into the finals of the SCISA Region 1-A Tournament at Greenwood Christian Academy on Friday night.

The boys weathered a grinding semifinal, winning 48-40 in overtime over Anderson Christian, while the girls routed King 39-11.

Noah Moore led the Crusaders with 18 points, hitting six of 12 shots and three of four free throws. Dawson Foster added 14, Charlton McCall eight, Diamonte Grant six and Thomas Lowry two.

Joseph Smith led Anderson Christian with 18 points.

Laurens Academy (18-9) hit 32.6 percent of its shots (16-46), while Anderson Christian connected on 28.3 percent (15-53).

The Crusaders hit nine of 10 free throws, including five of six in the extra period.

Ruthie Moore scored 16 points, hitting half her 16 shots, as the LA girls (23-3) exploded in the second quarter, with Moore scoring 10 of her points to put the Crusaders up 23-7. King scored two points each, as a team, in the first, third and fourth quarters. Chloe Herron led King with seven points.

Following Moore in LA scoring were Jennifer Wu with seven points, Reagan Williamson with six, Blair Quarles and Florence Mitchell with four apiece, and Emily Abercrombie with two.

The girls play Newberry Academy in the championship game at 3 p.m., while the boys play Richard Winn at 4:30.
