SPARTANBURG – Laurens Academy and Upstate Home School got their baseball teams together on Thursday and produced a football score.
The Bearcats won, 18-17. Seven pitchers took turns on the mound for the two teams. They all gave up runs. Twenty players batted: 18 scored, 14 had hits and 12 drove in runs.
For the Crusaders, Dawson Foster scored four, drove in three and had four hits. Cal Robertson drove in four and Reles Littleton three. Thomas Lowry and Jonas Smith scored three runs apiece. Robertson doubled twice.
Laurens Academy scored 12 runs in the final three innings … and lost. Upstate once led 15-5.
Eli Rogers was the winning pitcher, even though he allowed five unearned runs in one inning. Kyle Thompson, the only pitcher in the game who surrendered less than three runs, took the loss. He allowed one run in two innings.
