UNION – Union Christian Day School batted around in the first two innings and needed only two more to defeat Laurens Academy 15-0 in softball on Monday.

In those first two frames, nine Eagles walked and they needed only two hits to score four runs in the first and five in the second. The third-inning harvest was four and two more closed out the game at that point.

Abby Benfield stopped the Crusaders on two hits. She walked no one and struck out four.

Meanwhile, the two Laurens Academy pitchers Julia Katherine Marlett and Blair Quarles had trouble locating the plate. Union Christian had only eight hits, but 14 reached base via the walk.

Both of the batters who provided hits for the Crusaders, Hannah Stribling and Marlett, reached third base but could make it no farther. Stribling told two bases.

McKenzie Ford, Benfield and Caylin Ford scored three runs apiece for the Eagles. Rileigh Inglett drove in three.
