GREENWOOD – S.C. Festival of Flowers organizers are encouraging runners and walkers to embrace this year’s theme of “feel the fun” by registering this week for the annual 5K run and 1 mile run/walk on Saturday, June 8.
“Early registrants are guaranteed a Festival T-shirt if registered by the June 1 early-bird deadline,” said Austin Hough, Festival Coordinator.
The annual race is set for 8 to 11 a.m. at Lander University’s Jeff May Sports Complex, 415 Montague Avenue. The entry fee is $25 by June 1 and $30 after June 1 through the day of the event. T-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registrants through June 1. Race registration opens at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, and the run begins at 8 a.m.
The 5K starts out at the Lander soccer field, loops around the Capsugel/Lonza track and then down the “Greenwood Rails to Trails” and back. The one-mile walk/run starts and finishes on the soccer field by making a lap around the track.
For over 52 years, the S.C. Festival of Flowers has celebrated Greenwood as a destination for flowers, families and fun. Named Event of the Year in 2018 by the S.C. Festival & Event Association, the festival features its unique 42-piece signature topiary display in Uptown Greenwood and offers entertainment ranging from musical performances and garden tours, to sporting and cultural events during the month of June. The main weekend is June 7-9.
