CHS vs Wren

Wren blew in like the hurricanes they are in a totally dominant 45-0 win Thursday against the Clinton Red Devils.

One of many games in South Carolina moved up a day because of Hurricane Florence, the Clinton-Wren game never was in doubt as the Hurricanes scored early and kept their foot on the gas pedal. The Hurricanes scored offensive, defensive and special team touchdowns, as fumbles kept Clinton off the scoreboard. The Red Devils ran out of time at the Wren 2-yard line against the Hurricanes defensive reserves.

Wren’s first strike came with 10:45 left in the 1st quarter. Clinton held on 4th and 8 at the Red Devil 25 on Wren’s second possession. Wren’s elusive senior quarterback Tyrell Jackson broke off a long run and Clinton committed a face mask penalty, leading to a Wren field goal.

Clinton fumbled and punted its way to Wren having the ball at the end of the first half. A Jackson pass completion gave Wren a touchdown with 6 second left on the clock at halftime.

Things got no better for 1-3 Clinton against 4-0 Wren in the second half. Wren scored on a punt return and a pass interception to round out the game.

Clinton football head coach Andrew Webb said, “We left our defense way too much on the field in the first half. There were times in the first half I thought we played really well on defense. It doesn’t show up in a 45-0 score.”

Clinton goes to Pendleton this Friday, before being on the road again in two weeks for the region opener at Union County.

“We can’t say we’re going to do this against Pendleton (a loser to Belton-Honea Path) and that against Pendleton. We just got to take care of ourselves,” Webb said.
