Lady Raiders pick up key region win over Hillcrest

The Hillcrest Lady Rams struck first but the Laurens Lady Raiders struck often in a 13-3 win on Wednesday night at LDHS.

Hillcrest scored three runs in the first inning, but Laurens rallied for 13 unanswered runs to take the key region victory.  

After Hillcrest took the early lead, Laurens tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the first.

The Raiders took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning to go on top 7-3. The Lady Raiders added four runs in the fifth inning on a double by Matti Cantrell, a groundout by CJ Ginn, and a single by Annsley Nelson.

Rachel Delio earned the win for the Lady Raiders. She went five innings, giving up three runs, six hits and striking out four.

Laurens had 10 hits in the game. Nelson and Cantrell each collected two hits to lead the Lady Raiders at the plate.

The win moves Laurens back into first place in Region 2-5A with a record of 5-2 and 12-8 on the season. The Lady Raiders will be back in action Thursday night as they host Clinton for Senior Night beginning at 7:30pm.
