There’s big news from Iowa, where Laurens’ Thomas Jones is patrolling center field for the Clinton LumberKings of the Class A Midwest League.
Jones, the third-round draft pick of the Miami Marlins in 2016, is only batting .216, but 10 games ago, the average was .171.
The LumberKings are currently riding a four-game winning streak, and in the last 10 games, Jones is batting .297 with three home runs and eight runs batted in. It is the hottest streak of his professional career to date.
For the season, he has five homers, 13 runs scored, 20 batted, 25 hits, five doubles, a triple and five stolen bases in six tries. His average reached .229 after a recent four-game stretch in which he collected eight hits in 15 at-bats.
Clinton is currently 23-21, fourth in the Midwest League’s Western Division, six games behind the Quad Cities River Bandits.
