The reigning state champion Laurens Academy girls’ basketball team, led by Ruthie Moore with 20 points, won for the 25th time in a row Tuesday night, defeating Gray Collegiate 38-32 and hiking its record for the current season to 6-0.
Meanwhile, the boys completed a sweep by defeating Covenant Christian 50-12 behind 16 points from Noah Moore. The Crusaders improved to 4-2.
Ruthie Moore connected on nine of 18 field goal attempts, including one three-pointer, and one of two free throws.
Reagan Williamson added seven points, Jennifer Wu five, Blair Quarles four and Florence Mitchell two. As a team, LA hit 13 two-pointers and two treys. The Crusaders hit four of six at the free-throw line.
Gray Collegiate led 9-5 at the end of the first quarter but LA took the lead for good in the second.
Adiyana Potts led the War Eagles with 20 points.
The Laurens Academy boys roared out to a 24-2 lead over Covenant Christian after a quarter. In addition to Noah Moore’s 16 points, three Crusaders – Dawson Foster, Cal Robertson and Diamonte Grant – finished with six points, and Thomas Lowry added four.
Laurens Academy takes on Curtis Baptist at home on Friday.
