EASLEY – Banks Starbuck’s pitching was as colorful as his name in Easley’s 3-1 Region 1-5A baseball victory over Laurens on Thursday.

Starbuck stopped the Raiders on five hits, tossing an efficient 74 pitches and yielding only a first-inning run on Zak Rice’s single, scoring Jalen Bragg, who had led off with a base hit. Laurens put three on base in the top of the first and only four more the rest of the way.

Losing pitcher Nick Robertson deserved better. He pitched 5-2/3 innings, allowed only three hits and none of the three runs were earned. Laurens (14-11, 7-7 region) committed three errors, all in the bottom of the second inning, when the Green Wave scored its three runs. Luke Ryals drove in two of the runs; Cole Cascio singled in the first.

Center fielder Heath Bragg singled and doubled in three at-bats.

Easley (12-10, 7-7) swept the two games with LDHS.

The loss dropped the Raiders into a three-way tie for fourth place in Region 1 with Easley and Westside. Easley swept Laurens and split with Westside. The Rams and Raiders split their games. Five teams get playoff slots.

The Raiders got the fifth region seed and will play at Fort Mill on Tuesday.
