Last fall Laurens District High School had the most successful football team in Laurens County, but it wasn’t a successful year for the county.

LDHS head coach Chris Liner figures the Raiders have an excellent chance to pick up the pace in the fall, and the first repetitions are going on now with spring practice.

County Player of the Year Duane Martin returns to the Raider offensive backfield along with Jordan Woodruff and quarterback Ryan Campbell. Laurens finished the 2018 season with a 4-7 record, falling to Rock Hill, 51-30, in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

In that game, Martin, Woodruff and Campbell combined to rush for 245 yards, and Campbell passed for 139. The Bearcats and Raiders were tied, 30-30, at halftime.

Rock Hill won Region 3-5A. Laurens qualified for the playoffs as the fifth-place team in Region 1. Where the Raiders left off is a good place to pick up.

LDHS will hold its spring game on Tuesday, May 21, at K.C. Hanna Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.
