JOHNSTON – Led by 19 points from Ruthie Moore, Laurens Academy’s girls’ basketball team rolled by Wardlaw Academy 60-33 to earn a split against the Crusaders’ familiar rivals on Thursday.

Wardlaw took a big early lead in the boys’ game and held on to win 60-52.

Reagan Williamson added 12 in the Crusaders’ balanced scoring attack, followed by Jennifer Wu with eight points, Blair Quarles with six, Morgan Marlett five and Payton Breen three. Florence Mitchell, Lindsey Burroughs an Hanna Stribling each added two, and Sara Grace Natiello chipped in a free throw.

The LA girls led 16-6 after a quarter and the rout was on.

The boys could not quite overcome the 21-8 deficit they had after a quarter, but a fine second quarter made it close for most of the second half.

Noah Moore scored 18 points to lead the Crusaders, and Dawson Foster added 14. Charlton McCall had eight and Diamonte Grant six. Thomas Lowry and Cal Robertson scored three.

Laurens Academy is at home against Greenwood Christian on Friday, with middle school games getting underway at 4 p.m.
