Clinton High School boys and girls tennis coach Clovis Simmons has been named to the 2020 class of the SC Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

In a release, the SCACA announced five names for the Class of 2020. Joining Simmons will be Jerry Brown - Football Coach-Spring Valley, Fairfield Central, Berkeley, Batesburg-Leesville, Wade Hampton High Schools; Max Clyburn (deceased) - Golf Coach-Lancaster High School; Johnny Goodwin - Basketball Coach- Abbeville and McCormick High Schools and Brad Porter - Wrestling Coach- Cheraw High School

Simmons has been the girls and boys tennis coach at Clinton High School for 30 years. Her girls teams have a record of 435-110, while the boys teams are 390-104, including the 2000 state championship.

The girls teams have been to the state finals seven times in 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2005. The boys teams have been to the state finals six times in 1999, 2000, 2007, 2008, 2018, 2019.

Simmons was named region coach of the year 35 times, 21 for girls and 14 for boys. She was named SCACA coach of the year three times in 1996, 2000, 2018.

In 2019, Simmons was inducted into the Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame.

During her coaching career, Simmons has served as an assistant and head coach in both the boys and girls North-South All-Star matches. She has also served as the SC High School League singles tournament director for 25 years.
