DURHAM, N.C. – Six South Carolina golfers are competing in the almost week-long United States Golf Association Senior Amateur in Durham, N.C., Old Chatham Golf Club.

One is Walter Todd Sr. of Laurens. In Saturday’s opening round, Todd shot a 2-over-par 74, which tied him for 35th place, six shots behind leader Dean Channell, and placed him at the top of the informal South Carolina leader board.

The 156-man field competed on Saturday and will on Sunday in stroke play, followed by match play for the 64 lowest. The match-play eliminations run from Monday through the championship match on Thursday.

The S.C. scores in the first round were Todd at 74, Kevin King and Duke Delcher at 75 and Mike Gravley at 77. As of 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Matt Grandy and Frank Wrenn had not completed their rounds. Grandy was 3-over and Wrenn 7-over.
