WINNSBORO – Laurens Academy made some big plays, just not as many as Richard Winn, which defended its home field with a 52-20 victory over the Crusaders on Friday night.

The Eagles led, 15-0, after a quarter. A turnover cost LA (2-4, 1-3 SCISA 8-man Region 2) a likely score.

Clarence Bertoli put the Crusaders on the board with a 45-yard catch from Thomas Lowry that narrowed the Winn (5-2, 3-1) lead to 15-6.

A 92-yard drive, capped by a 3-yard Lowry-to-Diamonte Grant pass, brought Laurens Academy back to within 11 at 23-12, but the Eagles led 30-12 at halftime.

The Eagles stretched it out in the final two quarters, though LA scored on a 30-yard pass from Lowry to Caio Rita. Bertoli scored the two-point conversion on a pass from Lowry.

Lowry completed 21 of 38 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns. The receivers who caught those passes were Bertoli (6), Rita (6) Cal Robertson (5) and Grant (4).

Grant led the Crusaders in tackles with 10, and Lowry had seven.
