Pastor Elder Charles Edward Smith was born May 19, 1941 to the late Mr. James and Mrs. Lena Slaughter in Alexander City, Ala.
At an early age, he moved to California where he opened up his own mechanic shop. While there, he met Missionary Patricia Moore Smith and they married on April 19, 1986.
God called Elder Smith into the ministry at a young age, but he finally acknowledged his calling in 1987. In October 1989, after being led by the Holy Spirit, he and his wife moved to Laurens. In 1992, the Lord led him to become founder and pastor of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Laurens, where he faithfully served until God called him home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 17 siblings.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, in addition to his wife of the home: two daughters, Celestine Smith of Los Angeles and Tiffany Ganther of Van Nuys, Calif.; three sons, Marcellus Smith and Terrance Taylor, both of Los Angeles, and Cedric (Patricia) Fields of Santa Clarita, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Exell Greathouse of Dayton, Ohio; 11 sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; a very devoted church family; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at Sanders-Thompson on Saturday, June 15, at 1 p.m.
