Joy Rogers Sligh, age 81, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019, peacefully at her home.

She was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., and was a daughter of the late Reverend Clarence B. Rogers and Gladys M. Rogers.

Joy’s lifelong dream was to do missionary work for the church; she was active in the Baptist churches where her father’s work took them. She worked for Southern Bell and later for Whitten Center for many years and held a special place in her heart for the special-needs children. Joy will be remembered for being a loving mother to her two daughters and their families.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Sligh Adair (Rick) of Mount Pleasant; her three grandchildren, Grae Adair of Louisville, Ky., Christian Adair of Mount Pleasant and Lee Wilson (Lani, Ethan, and Talulah) of Butler, Tenn.; and her sister, Wanda R. Blewer (LaVerne) of Orangeburg.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Sligh Bagwell, and her brother, Donald Rogers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg Missionary Fund or to Hospice Care.

A Memorial Service will be conducted Friday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
