Sean McCarthy, named Wednesday as head baseball coach at Clinton High School, knows well what the job requires.

The new Red Devil head man is also an old Red Devil head man.

McCarthy stepped down after the 2017 season. He led 2016 team to the final four in the Upstate before falling to Seneca in an elimination game.

Tom Fortman, who stepped down to take a job as an assistant principal at Chester High School, served as head coach in 2018-19.

McCarthy has worked in School District 56 since 1997. During his tenure, he has served as an assistant coach in football and girls’ basketball and as head coach in softball and baseball.
