In Greenwood, the Eagle junior varsity girls edged Laurens 21-19 on Thursday. The Raiders led 8-4 after a quarter,13-8 at halftime and 17-8 after three quarters but fell victim to a 13-8 Eagle rush in the final quarter.

“We gave a great effort but came up just short,” LDHS coach Ben Coleman said.

Wamaya Givens led Laurens with 10 points. Amareeyuna Anderson scored five points, and Mauri McDowell added four.

Wright (Abbeville) defeated Laurens Middle School 30-5 in girls’ basketball, holding the Tigers scoreless in the first half to lead 18-0. Kali Spurgeon and Shanayai Chinn were LMS’s defensive standouts, and the scorers were Syberia Boyd and Jaliyah Young.

Coach Dianne Owens noted that Wright fielded “a much larger team” and the Tigers only had eight players available.

“Our defense is improving, and we had several steals by many players,” she said.
